Thanks for taking the time to help get to the bottom of it. Ripping out
activations is not a design decision that I wish to do multiple times.
The work needed to state the impact and trade-offs more precisely has
served to make the issues clearer in *my* mind as well, with the result
that I feel much more confident that taking activations out is the right
thing to do. This time was *very* well spent.
