It might surprise you to learn that I agree, but I think we need to be
careful to separate three different causes:

1. Much of the rationale is not (yet) documented. This makes the big
picture harder to understand.

2. The spec is not a rationale or a programmer's guide. This makes the
big picture harder to understand.

3. There really is too much complexity here.
