Yes, it was a margin glitch. I reworked the handling of margin whacking
to support more article types and I bungled the margin update for book
update (explicitly turned it off, should have explicitly turned it on).
A one line fix.

Committed in the tree. Should propagate to the site in the next hour or
two.
