Well, there has been a great deal of progress, and now that the web site
is moved and I have a more appropriate email account, I can tell you
about some of it. It isn't code progress, but it *is* progress.

It is an amazing amount of work to take a company out of suspended
animation -- or more precisely, to hire the first person. Here are some
things you need to do:

  Rent an office
Establish insurance contracts for all of the usual employee benefits
Establish business liability and operating insurance
  Retain a lawyer
  Retain an accountant
  Obtain furniture
Arrange phone, gas, electric, water service
  Get your bookkeeping set up
Get the company's public server up and running
  Negotiate various IP agreements
Negotiate enough client contracts to support all of these commitments
Actually do the mechanics of hiring

... all while doing your day job

It takes about two months of essentially non-stop work. Needless to say,
you don't tend to get a lot of code written during all of this...

However, I'm very pleased to finally be able to say that Jonathan Adams
will be joining the company from the Sun Microsystems kernel group. His
official start date, if I remember, is 4 September, but he won't
actually be on board until 1 October. Some lame excuse about taking a
honeymoon or something like that. :-)
