Agreed. I cheated by copying libgc.a to host/lib.

You are ahead of me; I am so far only working in
../bitcc-bootstrap/tests/unit

I just tried using the Makefile from the above directory for tests/general (as
tests/general/Makefile appears to be out of date) and I see compile errors
too.
